Will the MySpot 120 be damaged if a car forced it down, then backed up?

E-mail Print PDF

Yes.  When the MySpot 120 is forced from its locked up position to the ground, it will NOT be damaged, even if this was done at some speed by a moving car.

Once the post has been forced down and the car drives over it and stops, the post pushes itself against the undercarriage of the car.  When the car backs out, the top of the post will likely wedge itself on some irregular surface of the undercarriage and will not be able to slide any further.  At this point, huge forces are exerted on the post and on the undercarriage.

The most likely failure will be at the internal stainless steel cable that attaches the post to the base.  This cable will break, after which point there will be no further resistance and the car can pull out.  The car may be damaged.

The cable can be replaced with relative ease.  See MySpot 120 service manual for identification of the parts required and the procedure to replace the cable.
